        About
L' Escarpolette, or The Swing is a French woven jacquard wall tapestry based on the work by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. In 1767, the painter Doyen got an order from a courier to paint his mistress on a swing, pushed by a bishop, the lord himself hidden in the trees and watching his lady's petticoats. Doyen, scandalized by this, recommended Fragonard, best known for the lighthearted spontaneity of his amorous scenes.
