Lecture French Couch Pillow Cushion

Lecture is a French woven jacquard tapestry cushion cover. The artwork is an extract from a medieval tapestry portraying a scene of learning by courtiers in medieval times. This panel is a companion to #5504, The Concert. Here we see a lady heeding her tutor, who recites from a scroll. In medieval times, learning and reading was only for the royalty and nobles of the realm. Here we see a park-like scene on a mille fleur style background, typical of medieval decor of the time. The garments of the lecturer, as well as the lady are elaborate and true to the style of the medieval era.
