Mappemonde French Tapestry

Mappemonde, or World Map, is a French woven jacquard wall tapestry. This antique map of the world is surrounded by imagery . The work of Cartography was both an art and a science in the 17 century. Scenes of Man and Gods in natural settings surrounding the map sections. Rich in detail and vibrant color, this work makes use of blues and burgundies to bring a classical elegance to the work.
