This jacquard wall tapestry, Five English Horses, represents a scene inspired from a 19th century painting from Friedrich Wilhelm Keyl (1823-1871).
Keyl was born in Germany but lived, worked, and died in Victorian London. Known for his landscapes and animal paintings, he exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution. Keyl's teacher, Sir Edwin Landseer, introduced him to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who were to become his major patrons.
